Orthopaedic Joint Surgeon

The Palo Alto VA and Stanford University are seeking to hire an Orthopaedic Surgeon fellowship trained in lower extremity arthroplasty to join our team.  This is an ideal opportunity to develop and grow an academic career.  The Palo Alto VA is a tertiary care hospital with a large catchment area and referral base for complex cases and has the second largest research program in VHA.  The position involves teaching Stanford orthopedic surgery residents and adult reconstruction fellows.  As VA physicians are uniquely eligible to apply for VA Merit Review funding, there are many opportunities to develop individual and collaborative research programs that will enhance patient care. 

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University seeks a board certified/eligible Orthopaedic surgeon to join the department at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the University Medical Line (UML) or on the Clinician Educator Line (CE).

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Medical Center Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

While not required, Clinician Educators may also engage in scholarly activities and/or perform in an administrative role.

Academic line/rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. We expect the successful candidate to provide surgical and non-surgical care for Orthopaedic patients and (for MCL) produce scholarly work in the candidate’s major areas of interest, as well as teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students. The successful applicant should be eligible for a California Medical License. Must be a US citizen, and have a current medical license in any US state for qualifications.

Pay Range: $352,000-$400,000

  • Annual performance bonus up to an additional $15K per year

  • CME: $1,000/year and 5 days of paid absences for CME courses
  • Malpractice: VHA physicians are covered under federal tort laws
